Is the career decision or new job you "like" the right career for you? I present you with a list of questions to consider and resources to help you answer them.

As a psychologist and career counselor, I have worked with thousands of people over the years who are choosing or changing Careers, and who are wondering whether they would really like to be in a particular career. Based on this experience, I believe that most people who want to go into a career they think they'd like do not really explore the questions they need to in order to be sure that it's the right career for them.

There are many creative animal-related jobs, some requiring artistic backgrounds, and others requiring special expertise or education. But no matter the career, what sets creative animal-related Careers apart from the rest is the ability to think outside the box and take a "normal" animal-related job and come up with a way to specialize to the point that you either offer something beyond your competition, or you're doing something that allows you to tap into both your practical and artistic sides.

Research has shown that the average adult changes Careers at least 3 times during their life (and often more than that).  That figure makes sense when you consider how much we grow over time and that a career spans at least 40 years.  Over time our values, priorities, and interests change and we often find ourselves looking for something different from our work.  The career we found ourselves in during our 20s may differ greatly from where we would like to be in our 50s. 

Do you linger in bed long after your alarm goes off on work mornings? Do you dread Sunday nights because they lead to Monday mornings? Do you watch the clock and wonder if the day will ever end? Do you look outside your workplace and ask, "Is there more to life than just this job?"

They say that most people do complete and total career changes at least once often twice in their lifetimes. Very few people chose the ideal perfect career for themselves when they're in high school and blissfully happily work those same jobs for the rest of their lives. With the way that technology and everything else changes so fast, I think it's ridiculous to expect to stay in one job from the time you leave school until you retire. Even staying in the same company can be a huge challenge. So how will you pick your first career? Your next major career change?

According to recent statistics, 56% of the work force is dissatisfied with their job. According to a recent Monster.com poll, 87%of respondents said they were dissatisfied with their job.

If you are dissatisfied with your job, you are in a self-imposed career slump!

Why are so many of us in career slumps? Bottom line…we are not doing work that satisfies us! No matter what our employer does for us, if we are not doing work we really want to be doing, in a way that fits our desired life-style, we will never be satisfied.
